Waste Diversion

Curbside Compost

The Town provides curbside trash, recycling, and compost services to all Town of Eagle residents (single-family houses and multi-family complexes of eight units or less). We contract this service to Vail Honeywagon

What Can Be Composted?

Here's what you can compost in your curbside bin in Eagle:

  • All food scraps - ensure any stickers and/or packaging is removed.
  • Paper products, even if dirty or wet - greasy pizza boxes, napkins, and paper towels
  • Certified compostable products like to-go containers & compostable bags (make sure they include the BPI certified label or ASTM D6400 label)
  • Cut flowers & dead houseplants
  • Coffee grounds

Not sure if your item is compostable?

If you can't easily find the answer, it's best to leave it out and put it in the trash instead. When compost gets contaminated with non-compostable items, those items are extremely difficult to sort out. Enough contamination can ruin an entire truckload of curbside compost and result in that load ending up in the landfill. When in doubt, throw it out (in the trash)!

Single Stream Recycling

Here's what you can place in curbside recycling bin in Eagle:

  • Glass bottles & jars
  • Plastic bottles, tubs & jugs
  • Tin and aluminum cans
  • Paperboard - cereal boxes, etc. (NO frozen food boxes)
  • Paper
  • Cardboard - TIP: if the cardboard has no tape or staples and if it's dirty, you can place it in the compost instead. This will help absorb excess moisture and reduce odors.
  • Junk mail & magazines

Our Recycling Labels

The Town of Eagle uses standardized recycling labels, much like our neighboring towns and ski resorts. These are designed to help you efficiently and effectively recycle while in town.

Construction & Demolition Waste Diversion

There are opportunities to divert construction & demolition waste here in Eagle County. Diversion simply means redirecting these materials away from the landfill and toward another use. Diverting waste helps us conserve resources, protect our environment, and oftentimes save money.

Local homeowners and contractors can utilize the Eagle County Construction & Demolition Diversion Site to recycle concrete and clean dimensional lumber for a reduced price! Check the links below for more details.
